Founded in 1979, the French Association of Ship Masters (AFCAN) is dedicated to defending the rights and the moral and material interests of its members, while contributing to the improvement of maritime safety.
AFCAN provides its members with essential legal assistance: thanks to a dedicated insurance scheme, it ensures worldwide coverage in the event of a professional dispute, as well as tailored guidance and advice from its experts.
AFCAN is also responsible for representing ship masters within national and international bodies. It holds seats at CESMA, IFSMA, and CAMM, which allows it to engage with key organizations such as EMSA and the IMO, and to take part in decisions that directly affect the profession.
