STATEMENTS BY THE DELEGATION OF ARGENTINA
Statements made on 21 May 2010
Notwithstanding the statements that in due time the Argentine Republic will make to the
United Kingdom and the European Union, the Argentine Republic rejects the United
Kingdom’s claim to include the Malvinas Islands in the European Union LRIT CDC, which
arises from different paragraphs of document MSC 87/INF.21.
The Argentine Government recalls that the United Nations General Assembly has adopted
resolutions 2065 (XX), 3160 (XXVIII), 31/49, 37/9, 38/12, 39/6, 40/21, 41/40, 42/19
and 43/25, by which it recognizes the existence of a sovereignty dispute relating to the
"Question of the Malvinas Islands" and requests the Governments of the Argentine Republic
and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations
in order to find, as soon as possible, a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute.
The Argentine Government reiterates its legitimate rights of sovereignty over the Malvinas,
South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas, which are
an integral part of the territory of the Argentine Republic.
The Argentine Government would appreciate this statement to be included as an annex to
the report of the meeting.
